Summary of the main uses of ferric chloride (FeCl3)
1, Water treatment field
Water purification and flocculation
As an efficient flocculant, it is used for the treatment of drinking water and industrial wastewater. Through hydrolysis, Fe (OH) 3 colloids are generated, which neutralize the negative charge of suspended solids and adsorb pollutants (such as heavy metals and sulfides) to form precipitates, significantly reducing turbidity and COD/BOD indicators.
Combined with anionic polyacrylamide and other agents to improve sludge dewatering efficiency and reduce costs.
Precipitation and oxidation
Settling phosphates, arsenates, and sulfides in wastewater to reduce environmental pollution; Remove organic pollutants and odors from water through oxidation.
2, Industrial and Chemical Applications
Metal etching
Used for fine etching of materials such as copper, stainless steel, aluminum, etc., widely used in the manufacturing of electronic components, printed circuit boards, signs, etc.
Catalysts and oxidizers
As a catalyst for organic synthesis reactions (such as dichloroethane production) and an oxidant and mordant in the dye industry.
Chlorinated leaching agent used in metallurgy for extracting precious metals such as gold and silver.
Chemical raw materials
Production of other iron salts (such as ferrous chloride), inks, pigments, and pharmaceutical intermediates.
3, In the field of architecture and materials
Concrete reinforcement: added to concrete to enhance strength, corrosion resistance, and waterproofing.
Glass coloring: used as a coloring agent for hot glassware.
4, Other uses
Food industry
As an iron nutrient fortifier (to be processed into whey iron form), used in infant formula and weaning foods.
Laboratory and Medicine
Used as analytical reagents (such as thin-layer chromatography color reagents) and raw materials for drug synthesis.
