Human use of N-acetylcarnosine and non-aqueous carnosine is effective for cataract treatment because of its antioxidant effect. Oxidation refers to the phenomenon that cells are damaged due to excessive reactive oxygen species.

Glycation is a condition in which substances such as proteins and fats react with sugars to become denaturated. The first discovery of glycosylation was in 1968, the discovery of hemoglobin in the blood with sugar reaction phenomenon. This glycosylated hemoglobin is called "glycosylated hemoglobin", and the number increases in cataracts.
