Chemical Property/Description:

 

Blue to purple to dark brown powder. It is highly soluble in cold and hot water and has a blue color. Soluble in alcohol is greenish-blue. In case of concentrated sulfuric acid is reddish brown, it will be bluish-purple after dilution.

 

Main Uses:

 

Mainly used for the manufacture of pure blue and blue black ink, can also be used for the preparation of color lake, as a blue printing table ink. Can also be used for silk, cotton and leather dyeing and biological coloring, can also be used as an indicator.

Acid Blue 93, also known as fat blue, cotton blue, solvent blue 8B, magenta blue, is an aromatic heterocyclic compound. It is used as a biological stain for the staining of live protozoa, bacteria and nerve cells in animal histology. Disinfectant for medical purposes.

Acid Blue 93 is employed as a medication for the treatment of methemoglobinemia, which can arise from ingestion of certain pharmaceuticals, toxins, or broad beans in those susceptible. 
Normally, through the NADH- or NADPH-dependent methemoglobin reductase enzymes, methemoglobin is reduced back to hemoglobin. When large amounts of methemoglobin occur secondary to toxins, methemoglobin reductases are overwhelmed. Methylene blue, when injected intravenously as an antidote, is itself first reduced to leucomethylene blue, which then reduces the heme group from methemoglobin to hemoglobin. Acid Blue 93 can reduce the half life of methemoglobin from hours to minutes. At high doses, however, Acid Blue 93 actually induces methemoglobinemia, reversing this pathway.
