Soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in acetone. Its aqueous solution has sulfur precipitation for a long time. Above 50ºC, its concentrated aqueous solution gradually decomposes into sulfur and sulfate. Ammonium thiocyanate and ammonium sulfite are formed in the presence of ammonia and hydrocyanic acid. Aqueous solution can dissolve halide silver. Its solubility for silver chloride and silver bromide is greater than sodium thiosulfate, so it is also used as a rapid fixer. But it has a dissolving effect on the silver metal that makes up the image.
