Main uses:
1. Acid-base indicator, with a color change from light yellow to purplish red, and a pH value in the color change range of 5.2-6.8. Used as a reagent for thin layer chromatography to detect binary hydroxyacids and halogen ions (excluding fluorine).
2. It is also used as an extractant for the photometric determination of quaternary ammonium cations.
