Main Uses:

 

Physical and chemical properties: white crystalline powder, taste slightly bitter, burning numb, soluble in alcohol, ether and acetone, almost insoluble in water, boiling point 297-298ºC, melting point (general rule 0612) : 115-118ºC, density: 0.000759mmHg at 25°C, flash point: 120.3°C

Application: Hydroxyphenylate, as an antibacterial preservative, has been widely used in cosmetics, food and pharmaceutical preparations. It can be used alone or in combination with other hydroxyphenyl esters or antimicrobials. It is one of the most frequently used antibacterial preservatives in cosmetics. These hydroxyphenyl esters function over a wide pH range and have spectral antibacterial activity, most effective against yeasts and molds.

 

Ethyl paraben has strong bacteriostatic effect on fungi, but weak bacteriostatic effect on bacteria. It is used as a bacteriostatic preservative, widely used in liquid preparations and semi-solid preparations, and can also be used in food and cosmetics.

 

Ethyl parabens have strong inhibitory effect on molds and yeast, and poor effect on bacteria, especially on lactic acid bacteria and gram-negative bacilli. However, their antibacterial activity is stronger than that of sorbate and benzoic acid, and the antibacterial effect is not affected by pH value, and the effect is good in the range of pH value 4-8. The longer the p-hydroxybenzoate alkyl group, the stronger the antibacterial effect, butyl ester > propyl ester > ethyl ester. Parabens are one of the preservatives widely used in the world.
