(1) Peritoneal injection and gavage of petrogenin have obvious antitussive effects on both mice and cats. According to animal experiments, the antitussive mechanism of petrogenin is inhibition of the cough center, but different from central antitussive drugs, it is characterized by selective inhibition of the cough center, while has no obvious enhancement of inhibition on other centers.
(2) Brassin has good broad-spectrum antibacterial action, can inhibit dysentery bacillus, staphylococcus aureus and pseudomonas aeruginosa, and has antiviral effect; Brassin can promote the recovery of diseased tissue.
(3)Bergenin has analgesic, sedative, hypnotic and calming effects. At the therapeutic dose, there was no respiratory inhibition and no gastrointestinal smooth muscle spasm. It is better for chronic persistent pain and dull visceral pain, but worse for acute pain (such as post-operative pain, traumatic pain, etc.) and advanced cancer pain. While producing analgesic effect, it can cause sedation and hypnosis.
Use as antitussive expectorant.
It is used to treat chronic bronchitis.
