Methyl violet hydrochloride is a crystalline solid with a green to dark green.
It is soluble in water and the solution appears red or blue-purple.
Methyl violet hydrochloride is strongly alkaline and can react with acid to produce salt in solution.
It is unstable to light and air and will gradually turn yellow under sunlight.

Methyl violet hydrochloride is primarily used as an indicator in biology and chemistry laboratories.
