Rose colored monoclinic crystal, relative density 2.01, melting point 58 ºC, soluble in water, soluble in alcohol, insoluble in ether. Has water absorption, easily deliquescent, loses one molecule of crystal water at 106 ºC, and loses all crystal water to become anhydrous at 198 ºC.
