Chemical Property/Description:
White or pinkish crystalline powder. Melting point 140ºC. Soluble in hot water, alcohol, ether slightly soluble in cold water. The pH of a saturated solution at 28ºC is about 5. Slightly bitter.
Stable. Light sensitive. Incompatible with strong bases, strong oxidizing agents.

Salicylamide, also known as 2-hydroxyformamide, is a very important organic synthetic intermediate and a raw material for the synthesis of many important derivatives, such as molluscicides nitroaniline, pain and heat relief, etc. It is widely used in various fields such as medicine, spices, dyes, and rubber additives. Salicylamide is not only an important fine chemical intermediate, but also a widely accepted and widely used antipyretic and analgesic agent for fever, headache, neuralgia, joint pain, and/or active rheumatism, with good therapeutic effects.
It is an antipyretic and analgesic drug, and is also used in the preparation of o-ethoxy-benzamide (that is, analgesic ling) and other drugs. The oral LD50 of mice was 1.4g/kg.
