Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose is a propylene glycol ether of methyl cellulose, in which hydroxypropyl and methyl groups are combined with ether bonds and anhydrous glucose rings of cellulose, and are white to off-white cellulose powder or particles, which have the characteristics of cold water dissolution and hot water insolubility similar to methyl cellulose. Solubility in organic solvents is better than water solubility, soluble in anhydrous methanol and ethanol solutions, but also soluble in chlorinated hydrocarbons and ketones and other organic solvents. Soluble in water, the water-soluble liquid has surface activity, forms a film after drying, and undergoes reversible conversion from sol to gel after heating and cooling. It can be used alone in cold drinks, or combined with other emulsifiers and stabilizers, with a maximum dosage of 1% in cold drinks. In recent years, it has been widely used in petrochemical, paper making, leather, textile printing and dyeing, medicine, food, cosmetics and other industries, as a dispersant, thickener, adhesive, excipient, capsule, oil-resistant coatings and fillers.
Special use of product:
0.45~1.0% w/w hydroxypropyl methylcellulose can be used as a thickening agent for eye drops and artificial tears.
When the concentration is 0.1%, it can be used in liquid nasal preparations, and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose can be used as emulsifier, suspension agent and stabilizer for local gels and ovens.
It can form a protective gel to prevent droplets and particles from coalescing or coagulating, thus inhibiting the formation of sediments.
As one of the most commonly used film coating materials in the consistency evaluation variety.
Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is widely used in oral, ophthalmic, nasal and local drugs.
