Properties Light yellow to light brown oily liquid, flammable, pungent odor. Soluble in ethanol, chloroform, ether and aromatic organic solvents, slightly soluble in water. Decomposition by heat releases toxic ammonia oxide fumes. The aniline, methanol and sulfuric acid are mixed evenly in proportion, and the condensation reaction is carried out in the autoclave. The reaction product is recovered by pressure relief, and the methanol is neutralized by alkali, separated, and then the product is distilled under vacuum. Use This product is used as catalyst for making polyurethane foam in combination with organotin compounds. Also used as rubber vulcanization accelerator, explosive, medicine raw materials. It is one of the basic raw materials for the production of basic dyes (triphenyl methane dyes, etc.) and alkaline dyes, the main varieties are alkaline light yellow, alkaline purple 5BN, alkaline green, alkaline lake blue, brilliant red 5GN, brilliant blue and so on. N, n-dimethylaniline is used in the pharmaceutical industry for the manufacture of cephalosporin V, sulfanilamide B-oxouracil, sulfanilamide o-dimethoxil, fluorouracil, etc., and in the fragrance industry for the manufacture of vanillin.
