Yellow to Brown-yellow powder. Sensitive to heat. Thermal instability; λmax:575(377)nm. Insoluble in water, ethanol, and ether, slightly soluble in dimethyl sulfoxide and hot methanol, solution in sodium hydroxide solution and ammonia solution. Colorless alkaline solutions can complex with calcium, strontium, and barium salts to form purple and deep red colors, complex with magnesium to form pink colors, and complex with heavy metals to form colorless colors. Melting point 181-186 ºC (dec.).

Main Uses:

Complexometric titration indicator
As an indicator for complexometric titration, it is used to determine metal ions such as calcium, strontium, barium, magnesium, and cadmium. Its alkaline solution can form different colored complexes with these metal ions (such as purple/deep red complexes with calcium, strontium, barium, and pink complexes with magnesium), indicating the titration endpoint through color changes and providing a basis for quantitative analysis of metal ions.

Determination of serum calcium and magnesium by colorimetric method
In clinical testing, it can replace the traditional EDTA titration method for colorimetric determination of calcium and magnesium in serum, providing a more convenient detection method for serum calcium and magnesium concentration analysis.
