Chemical Property/Description
Reddish orange crystalline powder. Easy to absorb moisture and moisture. Soluble in water, insoluble in anhydrous ethanol. It is red in aqueous solutions, lemon yellow in acidic solutions, bright red in metal complexes, and reddish purple in alkaline solutions.

With xylenol orange as indicator, the plasma of Bi3+,Zn2+,Pb2+,Hg2+ can be titrated directly with EDTA in acidic solution with good results. Xylenol orange is often used as a 0.2% aqueous solution.

Main Uses:
Biochemical research. Complexing indicator, titrating zinc, bismuth,  cobalt, copper, iron,  indium, lanthanide, nickel, lead, scandium, thorium, zirconium, uranium (VI), vanadium, etc. Spectrophotometric determination of zinc, aluminum, beryllium, bismuth, lanthanum, niobium, nickel, palladium, thorium, yttrium, zirconium, etc. Acid-base indicator.

It can be used for direct titration of many metal ions, such as ZrO2+(pH<1), Bi3+(pH=1 ~ 2), Th4+(pH=2.5 ~ 3.5), etc., the end point changes from red purple to bright yellow, and the color change is sensitive. Al3+, Fe3+, Ni2+, Ti4+ and Th4+ with pH of 5 ~ 6 have blocking effect on xylenol orange. NH4F can mask Al3+ and Ti4+, ascorbic acid can mask Fe3+, orthodiazine can mask Ni2+, and acetyl can mask Th4+ and Al3+ to eliminate the blocking phenomenon. Xylenol orange is usually prepared into an aqueous solution of 2g·L-1, which is stable for about 2 to 3 weeks.
