Calcium alginate is a colorless crystalline solid. It has the following main properties: solubility: Calcium alginate can be dissolved in water, forming a colloidal solution. Acid alkaline: Calcium alginate is an acidic solution and is more stable under acidic conditions. Chelation: Calcium alginate can form complexes with many metal ions. Industrial use: Calcium alginate can be used as an additive in the manufacture of industrial products such as porcelain, paper, dyes and petroleum. There are two main methods for the preparation of calcium alginate: chemical method: by reacting sulfuric acid with natural materials such as seaweed, and then using calcium hydroxide for precipitation and crystallization. Biological method: alginate in seaweed is extracted, and then calcium alginate is obtained through enzymatic hydrolysis, purification and crystallization.
Calcium alginate is a biopolymer that can be used to develop oral drug delivery systems.
