Bromocresol green is a bio-based dye that ranges in color from yellow-green to blue-green. Bromocresol green turns yellow in acidic solutions (e.g., pH=4.15) (λmax=435nm, protonated form) and blue in alkaline solutions (λmax=615nm, deprotonated type).



Main Uses:

1.Bromocresol green chromogenic reagent plays a key role in protein electrophoresis separation and detection. Bromocresol green is used as ionic indicator and contaminant detection agent in SDS-PAGE gel electrophoresis. It can be used to detect the position and migration of protein, and determine the relative molecular mass of protein according to the depth of the color band. In addition, bromocresol green can react with sulfur-containing amino acids (such as cysteine) in the gel to form colored complexes that label proteins containing sulfur-amino acids in protein bands.

2.Nucleic acid electrophoresis separation. In addition to protein electrophoresis, bromocresol green chromogenic reagent can also be used for nucleic acid electrophoresis separation and detection. In agarose gel electrophoresis, bromocresol green can be used as a fluorescent dye by binding to DNA or RNA so that it fluoresces under purple external light. By observing the fluorescence intensity and location, the relative molecular weight and purity of the target nucleic acid can be determined. The application of bromocresol green in nucleic acid detection makes the visualization of nucleic acid more convenient and accurate.

3.Cell biology research. Bromocresol green chromogens also play an important role in cell biology research. For example, in the detection of apoptosis, bromocresol green can bind to the DNA of apoptotic cells and appear bright under the microscope. This allowed the researchers to determine the extent of apoptosis by looking at the number and morphology of the stained cells.
