Chemical Property/Description
Purple to pink powder,It is an organic pigment with good dyeing effect and stability.
A common preparation is by brominating bromothymol and then coupling it with a suitable aromatic aldehyde compound or aromatic amine. The preparation process requires appropriate catalyst and solvent to promote the reaction.
It is an indicator used in the determination of weak acid and weak base, which is yellow when acidic and blue when alkaline. Its acid-base balance is: C27H28Br2O5S H+ + C27H27Br2O5S Bromothymol blue has a pKa of 7.10.
Main Uses:
1. Used as acid-base indicator,pH discoloration range 6.0(yellow) ~ 7.6(blue). Also used for adsorption indicator.
2. Used as an extraction separating agent for spectrophotometric determination of quaternary ammonium cation.
It is widely used in textile, leather, paint, ink and other industries. It can be used as a dye, pigment and indicator to give certain materials a deep blue color.
