It is used as a reagent and reducing agent for the determination of carbonyl, and is also used in the preparation of hydride, silane, borane, etc.

It can reduce aldehydes, ketones, acids, anhydrides, esters, lactones, quinones, acyl chloride and others to alcohols, nitrile to primary amines and halogenated hydrocarbons to hydrocarbons. But usually you can't hydrogenate the carbon-carbon double bond. Widely used in medicine, spices, pesticides, dyes and other fine organic synthesis of reducing agents.
