Ammonium alginate is a chemical with the formula C6H7O6NH4. Alginic acid, also known as alginate or alginate, is an anionic polysaccharide widely distributed in the cell walls of brown algae, where it forms a viscous gel by combining with water. It is also a prominent component of a biofilm produced by the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the major pathogen in cystic fibrosis, imbuing it with high-resistance antibiotics and killing by macrophages. Its color ranges from white to tan. It is sold in filaments, pellets or powder form. It is used as the basic agent, thickening agent, stabilizing agent and emulsifying agent.
