- Can lose crystal water at high temperatures and become anhydrous magnesium acetate.

Use:

-Magnesium acetate tetrahydrate is often used as a common reagent for magnesium salts in the laboratory for the synthesis of organic compounds and the preparation of magnesium metal.
- It can also be used to prepare other magnesium salts, such as magnesium acetate dihydrate (Mg(CH3COO)2·2H2O) and anhydrous magnesium acetate (Mg(CH3COO)2).
