L-Ascorbyl palmitate, also known as ascorbic acid-6-palmitate or palmitic acid ester, is a white or yellow white powder with a slight citrus aroma. According to the "Hygienic Standards for the Use of Food Additives" in China, L-ascorbyl palmitate can be used for edible oils, oily foods, instant noodles, and bread, with a maximum dosage of 0.2g/kg.
Firstly, L-ascorbyl palmitate is an efficient oxygen scavenger and enhancer, and has been evaluated by the World Health Organization (WHO) Food Additives Committee as a nutritious, non-toxic, efficient, and safe food additive. It is the only antioxidant in China that can be used in infant and toddler food, and can be used in food to have antioxidant, food (oil) color protection, nutritional enhancement and other effects. This additive has all the physiological activities of vitamin C, while overcoming its disadvantages of being sensitive to heat, light, and moisture.
