For content determination/identification/pharmacological experiments, etc. Pharmacological effect: Geniposide has the effects of laxative, analgesic, gallbladder, anti-inflammatory, treatment of soft tissue injury, inhibition of gastric secretion and decrease of pancreatic amylase.
An iridoid glycoside has a variety of biological activities, including neuroprotective, anti-diabetic, anti-proliferative, and antioxidant activities. Geniposide has been shown to regulate the translocation of Nrf2 and up-regulate the expression of downstream antioxidant protein HO-1 via the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor may also play a key role in gardeniin-induced HO-1 expression.
