Chemical Property/Description
Methyl orange itself is weakly alkaline, and the discoloration range is between pH 3.1 and 4.4. The color range of methyl orange is red when pH<=3.1, orange when 3.1~4.4, and yellow when pH>=4.4.

Main Uses:
Methyl orange is a commonly used indicator for acid-base titration in analytical chemistry, and is not suitable for titration of organic acid compounds. The pH of aqueous solution with a concentration of 0.1% is 3.1 (red) ~ 4.4 (yellow), which is suitable for titration between strong acid and strong base and weak base. It is also used for spectrophotometric determination  for biological staining.

Methyl orange has been used in laboratory and industrial and agricultural production for pH control of chemical reactions, as well as acid-base titration analysis of chemical products and intermediates. The disadvantage of methyl orange indicator is that the yellow-red color is difficult to identify, and it has been replaced by a wide range of indicators. Methyl orange is also an azo dye that can be used to print and dye textiles.
